Okay, there's some good stuff in the PFblogosphere that you should read, and I'm going to tell you all about it, but make sure you take care of that stuff during halftimes or when Lou Holtz it on the air.
Here's the schedule for tomorrow:
7:00am-9:00am
ESPN College GameDay. "Cause we're coming to your ci-ty!" There's a lot of fluff. So, I recommend Tivo'ing this and actually waking around 7:45 so that you can fast forward much of it. Also feel free to get yourself a bagel right about now.
9:00am-12:00pm
Texas vs. North Texas. Not very interesting, but tune in for at least a couple of offensive series to see how the new Texas QBs look.
Vanderbilt vs. Michigan. Big 10 vs. SEC. Somehow I don't think Vanderbilt is the ideal SEC representative. I'll probably pass on this one.
This is probably the most appropriate time to get some chores done if needed.
12:30pm-3:30pm
ESPN2: Akron vs. Penn State. Don't expect Penn State to continue the run they had last year. This game should still be a blow out.
ABC regional coverage. In the West Coast you will see Oregon vs. Stanford. Nice, Pac-10 play gets going early. Oregon should be good this year, and Stanford has much catching up to do. This is worth watching, but don't wear yourself out, there's much better football to come.
2:30pm-5:30pm
ESPN: California vs. Tennessee. This is the game of the week. Tennessee is trying to rebound from a disappointing 5-6 season. Cal is ranked in the pre-season top 10 for the first time in decades, but still trying to prove themselves nationally.
4:30pm-7:30pm
ESPN2: Washington State vs Auburn. Another Pac-10 vs SEC matchup, but this doesn't figure to be very interesting. Wazzou was one of the best 4-7 teams last year, losing several close games, but they lost a very good running back, and simply are not anywhere near as good as Auburn.
5:00pm-8:00pm
ABC National: Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech. Oh man, things are getting good. Look for some of the TV pundits to call for the Georgia Tech upset. It seems to be a popular pick. I don't think it will happen. It should be a high scoring affair and the kick off of the Brady Quinn for Heisman campaign.
5:45pm-8:45pm
ESPN: USC vs Arkansas. Don't expect last year's 70-17 blowout. USC has an all new backfield. This game could be interesting.
7:00pm-10:00pm
Fox Sports: UCLA vs Utah. Good test right out of the gates for highly regarded first year UCLA QB, Ben Olsen. UCLA should come away with the "W", but look for the Utes to put up a bunch of points.
Phew! Now that I got that out of my system, here are the personal finance blog posts that you should read...
2Million has some great posts. Definitely read all of the two part post on buying an engagement ring. And go over there and wish him a Happy Anniversary. But don't bother him, he'll be watching College Football.
More on the Wedding and Marriage theme, Amanda at Young and Broke realizes that she and Josh have too many bank accounts. They will be consolidating, but still maintaining some independence. Go read the comments, good stuff.
City Girl went out for some Retail Therapy. Ahhh... Endorphins. Be careful, sometimes retail therapy turns into credit card bill remorse! Reminds me of Fat Bastard from Austin Powers: "I eat because I'm unhappy. I'm unhappy because I eat."
Financial Freedumb wonders if there world of Personal Finance is big enough to justify the hoards of us blogging about our money. I take the position that there is an alternate universe of even more PF bloggers that we don't know about.
That's it. Go read those, but get it done before kickoff!
We can only hope the WAZZU / Auburn game actually is interesting. Being a Coug alum, I'd like to see a major upset. This morning the spread gave WSU 14pts. It all depends on their defence and how well they can finish. As you noted, last year they had a penchant for dropping some close ones. It was especially maddening as they lost three games that they led going into the fourth quarter. They were up on unbeaten UCLA 38-21 in the fourth quarter, then lost in OT. Hopefully the kids learned from their experience last season, and can pull out a few more Ws this year.

Woohoo 17-25...not a bad showing by Hawaii.

Well Debt Free, the end result was a blowout, but I think the Cougs hung in there longer than most expected.
USC and UCLA both had good starts to the year. And FF, I'm not telling who my team is. But I was definitely rooting for Hawaii to have a good game against Bama.
Cal, of course, stunk it up. I think they were the disappointment of the weekend.
Man I love this time of year!
