For the last two days, when I tried to log on to my account at Washington Mutual, I received an error message. Worst of all, here is how the error message goes,
Our online services are temporarily unavailable. Our technical staff is working diligently to restore service.
Bill payments and transfers scheduled during this period will be initiated as scheduled.

Are you kidding me? I'm just trying to check my accounts to see if transfers have been complete, and the following happens:
- The whole site is slow, so the log in attempt takes much longer than ususal
- For two consecutive business days I am unable to access my account on-line
- The error message that comes up does not give me a phone number for telephone banking so that I can check my balance, most recent transactions, etc. Rather it gives me a number to apply for a home equity loan or line of credit!
STOP SELLING TO ME! Jeez, just help me with my existing account.
So, I have to reach into my wallet and get the cusomer service phone number off of my ATM card. I have no difficulties accessing a person and receiving the information that I need. So, points in their favor for that. However, at the end of the call she says, "I noticed that you do not have a savings account with us, is that something you would be interested in today?"
STOP SELLING TO ME!
To their credit, they were not trying to sell me more credit products. That annoys me infinitely more than a pitch for a savings account.
I went through the same thing when checking my account last week. I did not know their servers were down I thought they were making changes to the site. I noticied some minor changes in the checking and savings page. Regardless they should post something on the front page indicating they are having problems.
