Seriously. Well, not you. But this guy did!
This is just too crazy. So, here's the story. Albuquerque resident and hair stylist, Larry Trujillo, is a fan of the local Triple A baseball team, the Albuquerque Isotopes. Unlike Major League Baseball teams, minor league games typically run little promotions to get butts in the stands. The Isotopes have an ongoing promotion, possibly giving away a car (not such a little promotion). But there's a whole bunch of catches. Here's how it works.
When you get to the stadium you enter your name in a drawing. If your name is selected, then you have a chance to win the car. In order to actually win the car, however, someone on the Isotopes has to hit a Grand Slam IN THE THIRD INNING!
Think about how rare that is. So, first your name has to get pulled out of about 10,000 entries. Then, in the third inning, bases have to get loaded. Then someone has to hit one out of the park, sealing the Grand Slam and the car for the lucky winner.
Larry Trujillo won a car in this very fashion on August 1, 2005. On May 5, 2006, he won a second car, courtesy some insane luck!
Seriously, how rare are grand slams? Well, think about this.
Lou Gehrig holds the Major League Baseball record for most Grand Slams. He was clearly one of the all time greats, playing in 2,164 games, with 8,001 At Bats, a lifetime batting average of .340, 493 Home Runs, and only 23 of them Grand Slams.
Hank Aaron, the all time leader in Home Runs, had 12,364 At Bats, 755 Home Runs, and 16 Grand Slams.
So, needless to say, a grand slam is a fairly rare event. Now to narrow that down to say that the grand slam must occur in one specific inning! That must be extremely rare! And for one guy to have his name pulled twice, and for the third inning grand slam to occur both times? Time for this guy to buy a lotter ticket. Either that, or stay out of lightening storms.
Wait a minute... aren't the Albuquerque Isotopes a fictional team? The Springfield Isotopes from the Simpsons were threatening to move to Albuquerque. Duff Man was in on the whole thing.

HA! You're right, it was the Springfield Isotopes! Well, the Mighty Ducks was a movie before an actual NHL team.
