Read Email Here
I got this email from a citizen of Senegal. Looks like all I have to do is give them my bank account information, and they will transfer $12.5 to my account. They take 60%, I get 40%, or $4,375,000. I could sure use four million, three hundred seventy five thousand US dollars.
How often do you think people fall for this? Did you read the email? I like how the words, "FINANCE FIRM" are in bold letters. Do you think they were supposed to replace "FINANCE FIRM" with the name of an actual bank?
I thought this was funny, and I would share. But it's really not funny. The fact that these still get sent mean that there are still suckers out there responding to them. My Mom knows not to open emails from her bank, and especially to not click on whatever they are requesting. "But how do they know where I bank?" she asks. We're getting into another topic, but the emails that my Mom receives is known as phishing. She receives emails from several banks that she has never heard of, and deletes without question. She then receives an email with her bank's logo, and thinks, "wait a minute. That's my bank. Do I need to respond?" Then thinks better, but is freaked out at how they "know" where she banks.
I've gotten a number of these requests before. Crazy as they are, some people must fall for them since they still get sent out regularly... On a similar note, I've noticed that on eBay and Craigslist lately, if you place an item up for sale, you will often get offers from people who want to buy your item and pay with a cashiers check. They send counterfeit checks to people who agree. The people send the item, then try to cash the check, which is of course denied. The worst of it is, banks will usually hold their customer responsible for the amount of the check...
