These tips courtesy of bankrate.com. It has been a while since I have posted about our wedding plans. We are planning a long engagement, so there is not the same sense of urgency that most couples feel immediately after engagement. But we have begun to look for churches, and good ideas to not only create the perfect day, but do it on a budget.
I thought this article was interesting, so I'll give my comments on their Wedding Registry Tips:
- Do Register with Two or Three Different Merchants. I agree. We'll probably do two, not three. We recently attended a wedding, and noticed that they had registered for a salad spinner at two different stores. Seeing as nobody needs two salad spinners, I don't think this was intentional. By registering with two instead of three or more, I believe we will cut down the liklihood of accidental duplicates.
- Do Register with Physical As Well As On-line Stores. We'll probably stick with Target, Macy's, Crate & Barrell, or any of a number of other stores that accomodate either.
- Do Read FAQs and check Hidden Fees Before Setting up a Registry. This is probably for new-fangled registries like Honeymoon registries. Read Him and Her's post about How Honeymoon Registries Get Rich off Your Money. We'll probably keep it simple. Register for some kitchen, bath and bed stuff. Most of my relatives will likely give money. It's customary.
- Do Remember Your General Retailers. I'm not sure what this one means. In Bankrate's article they say, "Unlike some department stores, you can register for fun items such as Rollerblades and things for your pet." But what is a general retailer? Toys R Us or PetSmart?
- Do Register for Items to Fit Every Budget. I think we'll pass on this. We attended a wedding of a young woman from a wealthy family. Her registry included a $9000 bedroom set, eventually purchased by a rich uncle. We'll have a range, but not anything too pricey (more than a couple hundred bucks).
That's all you get for now. I'll post the next five tomorrow.
Definately provide a range of prices and also definately register at multiple spots. We did Crate and Barrel, Tiffany (for our china, a tradition in my family) and Target - this really covered the spectrum in terms of affordability and versatility.
